Sustainable Traceability: Optel's role in carbon footprint management and regulatory compliance

This presentation introduces Optel's solution Optchain, a traceability platform that elevates sustainable practices within the manufacturing sector. It explores how Optchain enables companies to track and calculate carbon footprints effectively, while ensuring compliance with European CSRD and EUDR regulations. Through case studies, including the Canadian Aluminium Industry and a leading Beverage Company, the session will demonstrate Optchain's role in enhancing transparency and environmental accountability. Optchain not only streamlines compliance but also serves as a key driver in the pursuit of a greener industrial future.

Future of Automation in Chemicals

Manufacture of chemicals requires both energy and materials. Along with the energy transition, the drive to sustainable chemical production has to be part of a circular economy. In such a future, automation has to evolve for both of these aspects of sustainability. Join us on this journey of software-driven automation that includes requirements to be open, modular, portable, inter-operable and eventually, autonomous

Firing up the Glass Industry towards Net Zero

Speaker

Hallam Wheatley

Collaboration Lead

Glass Futures

Having worked in the Chemical Industry for the 12 years, prior to joining Glass Futures in December 2022, I was fortunate enough to work across several disciplines.

Starting life in manufacturing, before moving into R&D, where I worked on sustainable projects, such as plastic recycling, and the hydrogen economy, I moved into a marketing role in 2020. My last role, before joining Glass Futures was helping to join the dots between academia and my employer, when it came to R&D, and how to make those relationships as effective as possible.

Within Glass Futures, I sit across both the projects and the membership team, enabling key cross-member collaboration, to ensure that the research we are doing at Glass Futures can provide value for both our stakeholders and the wider industry.

Currently based in Teesside, in the UK, I spent the previous three years living and working in Maastricht, so I know the area very well!

Decarbonize steel industry with green hydrogen empowered by digital solutions: Solving key challenges

The steel industry has embarked on a decarbonization journey to address significant carbon footprint, with hydrogen a key abatement lever for decarbonization, steelmakers are facing challenges to scale hydrogen production at attractive cost, including sourcing of sufficient renewable energy.

Scaling green hydrogen production from few kilo-watts to giga-watt scale requires intense efforts in terms of analysis around electrical designs, electrolyser selection and optimization across the complete value chain.

Technologies like digital twins which help in analysis of hybrid electrical networks and the process needs are helping engineering companies to design the green hydrogen production facilities which are fit for purpose and scalable.

Similarly, automation with integrated architecture helps in managing the complete production cycle from choosing the cheapest energy source to management of intermittency of power generation and associated downstream continuous process.

Digital twins developed during design phase support efficiency improvement during operate and maintain phase supporting energy optimization and reduced unscheduled downtime.

We will discuss how during different phases of the project, such digital solutions help de-risk the projects, improve performance and reduce overall cost.
