James Ferrier

James is one of the co-founders of BioFab, a bio-manufacturing start-up with a mission to revolutionise the packaging and construction industries using mycelium composites. These are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and truly bio-based substitutes for materials such as expanded polystyrene, polyurethane foams, and other hard-to-recycle plastics.

James has an extensive background in both packaging—a major market for BioFab’s material—and the industrial hemp industry, which is a key raw material for mycelium composites. He believes we are only at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unlocking the potential of nature and natural products. This potential can help reduce the harm that toxic materials inflict on the planet and pave the way for a world where waste streams regenerate rather than destroy the natural environment.
