Melissa is a technical account manager and the horticulture lead for Stop Food Waste Australia. She works with businesses that sign on to the Australian Food Pact,which is a commitment to reduce food waste in your own operations as well stand with other business to increase impact. She also leads the Horticulture sector action plan to reduce food waste from fresh produce nationally.Melissa has over 20 years’ experience in Agriculture, both as a farmer and in industry policy and strategy. Over this time, she has witnessed the costly impact of food supply chain issues that lead to food waste in her own business and in the horticulture industry. Melissa believes these problems must be solved collaboratively and is excited to be playing a role in bringing Industry, Government,Science and Food Charities together to meet Australia's ambitious goal of halving food waste.As a recipient of a Churchill fellowship, in 2024 Melissa will be delving into global approaches to reduce on-farm food waste and bringing these learnings back for the benefit of the Australian Horticulture Industry
