McDonald’s has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with EDF Renewables for solar energy to help meet its sustainability goals.
The 255MW Apollo Solar project, located in Texas and expected to start generating green electricity in June 2024, will generate enough electricity to meet the consumption of more than 1,200 McDonald’s restaurants in the US.
That’s equivalent to avoiding more than 439,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually, which represents the emissions from more than 95,000 passenger vehicles driven annually.
The project will create around 300 jobs during the construction phase.
